Previously I discussed the benefits of the automated drip system, Grow on the Go, now I will tell you how it works.   This is a fully patented system for you information.

Here’s the basic concept for your compact garden that will fit your yard, your deck or on your patio:   You need to purchase one or more bags of potting soil of size 2 cubic feet (50 quarts)or larger and a hose timer (single flow, dual cycle).  These items, the potting soil bags and the timer, can be purchased at your local home and garden center. The drip irrigation components comprise the pressure regulator (10-15psi), drip tape and ties. (Do not try to connect the drip tape without the pressure regulator otherwise the drip tape will rupture as your mains pressure is around 60psi).  These components can be purchased on-line at  www.irrigationdirect.com: and www.trickl-eez.com or simply purchase our ‘Grow on the Go’, our drip irrigation kit which provides you with all the components and step by step instructions.     Purchasing our system will not cost you more as we sell you only the exact amounts of drip equipment that you need and takes out all the guesswork.
To create the compact garden simply puncture the potting soil bags (slit at each end of the bag and the required number of 3in by 3in cuts for your plants as illustrated in the plant configuration layout) and feed the drip line through the bags.   If you purchased my drip irrigation kit it allows you to connect up to five potting soil bags.   Once you have the bags linked, connect your timer to your spigot, then to hose, and from hose to the pressure regulator to drip tape.   You simply connect up the system components as shown in the ‘Drip Irrigation Layout’.  Once your bags have been connected simply tie-off (with a knot) the drip tape end.  Now insert you plants (plant size should be 2 inches or larger) into the holes you made in the potting soil bags and your ready to go.   Remember you will need to setup the timer to irrigate twice a day, 30 minutes in spring and fall to about 60 minutes in the heat of the summer.    Make sure that for first time watering that the bags have been well irrigated before planting.

My suggestion would be to run the irrigation system for one day prior to planting to ensure soil is moist.    Once the soil is moist plant you plants in the desired configuration as shown.    Once completed you need only prune your plants as required, there is no further work needed on your part, you can now just watch the plants grow.   You can also get the satisfaction that your water bills will be low as each bag absorbs a little over 1 gallon of water per day for two watering cycles of one hour each!  Compare this with a sprinkler system that can emit up to 250 gallons of water per hour!
